May is Mental Health Awareness Month and what better way to participate than with artmaking! Together with the Demuth Museum and the Lancaster Museum of Art, I was asked to make an art kit for kids!

With being an art teacher, I implement the Social Emotional Learning , or SEL framework into my lessons (see “Moon & Pluto” blog to get a detailed rundown)! For the May art kit, the drawing technique “Zentangle” was explained. Let’s unpack this term! Zentangles are repeated patterns of lines and shapes that are created in the moment. The point of a Zentangle is to become ZEN in your state of mind; calm and present with your thoughts and feelings. No pencils are used as you cannot make a mistake while zentangling! Zentangles are best created while in a calm, quiet space with relaxing music on.
Below is an example of a zentangle with a little mosaic twist. So, if you have a few minutes of quiet, grab a pen/marker, a piece of paper, use this playlist in Spotify and tune into your creativity!
